Bridget Jones's Diary is a beautifully made and greatly enjoyable book adaptation. Just like the book makes allusions to Austen's Pride and Prejudice, this film indirectly refers to the BBC adaptation of the said book, which is a nice touch. It is handling the challenges of a book adaptation very well. There are (mostly successful) attempts to get through the book's first person / diary narrative. This starts very well, but then disappears in the second half of the film, which is a bit of a pity for the structure, though one could argue that this transition gives the film more speed. Overall, the film shows splendid narrative techniques, though maybe a bit hectic. Bridget Jones's Diary is a fun film with many clever jokes, a smashing soundtrack, and a host of moments to please any romantic comedy fan. It is definitely worth the time.
