Tootsie

Tootsie is a truly brilliant piece of cinematography. It will make you think a little, laugh a lot, and you'll be glad that you saw it.

The film has a great structure. It uses extensive foreshadowing, and it leaves no loose ends. Everything in the film is there for a reason and yet, it is still easy to watch and very enjoyable. The storyline is original but very easy to grasp, because it is not overly complicated. The film is mainly focused on meaning, and the story is there to support it and carry it across.

About acting: it is relatively easy to act an ordinary person, slightly more difficult to act a bad actor, but even more difficult to act a good one. This is extremely well handled in the film. It is both fun and believable within the story. The film raises some good questions about gender equality seen from both sides, and this is done in a very open and yet unobtrusive manner. It leaves the discussion unfinished, and it doesn't force the viewer to think about it unless desired.

Tootsie is a real classic and no film enthusiast should miss it. It is a rare combination of fun and essence mixed together in a highly professional and elegant way.
