Gravity

Gravity will take your breath away. It is a beautiful example of a high-quality film that actually deserves the 3-D.

It is a film that is mainly based on the atmosphere. It is a lovely depiction of how people feel in a crisis situation. The visual side of it is simply stunning and apparently also very accurate as to the appearance of space equipment and the portrayal of zero gravity. There is some very clever manipulation of the camera angle either to help depict movement, to convey the mood or to give the viewer a glimpse of the actors' faces. This is very deftly done. One would think that there would be no space for acting all crammed in those suits, but there is actually a lot of really good acting to be seen in Gravity.

The story is refreshingly simple and easy to follow (which is so rarely the way in many modern action-based movies). There is not one dull second. The whole thing is very engaging on several levels including emotional, and yet it manages to avoid over-the-top sentimentality that offers itself so freely in this kind of film. This film has a very pure air to it, which plays a big part in why it is so good. The only warning that might be worth mentioning is that it's probably not for people with a weak heart. There is a lot of action-based tension. This can be a very good thing in films - and works very well in Gravity - but might be quite a strain on the nerves if you're not fine with that kind of thing.

Gravity is definitely a must-see. It is original and should speak to a wide range of viewers thanks to the breathtaking visuals combined with everything that makes a good and captivating film. So please pardon all the puns in this review and go and see it if you haven't already!
