Dangerous Liaisons

Dangerous Liaisons is a very well handled film version of a literary piece. It is emotionally charged without being soppy, and it will surely please a wide variety of viewers.

It is extremely difficult, if not impossible, to find any fault in this classic film. The story is well paced, there are no loose ends or incongruities, and the actors are all at their very best. A lot of meaning in this film is conveyed through acting alone, and this is enabled through clever shots, such as those where the viewer sees a character's expression that is not visible to the other characters. This helps create a rather playful atmosphere that goes very well with the story. This supports the film further when it starts going into graver matters, because the change in mood is well contrasted and has all the greater impact, making the film truly dark, as it was supposed to be.

The film also looks very pretty. The costumes are to die for, and there is a lot of good camera work. Whether you're just looking for a classic to pass a Saturday evening or you want a deeply touching and captivating film, Dangerous Liaisons is definitely a must-see.
