Corpse Bride

Tim Burton's Corpse Bride is a very interesting stop motion animation film. It combines horror with comedy to create a unique macabre atmosphere that is not actually scary.

The film doesn't have one clear focus; instead, importance is divided evenly between the fairytale-like story-line, typical Tim Burton atmosphere, beautiful music (yes, it is a singing film) and comedy mainly based on clever wordplay and situation humour. There is also a little hint of social criticism but with very little reference to the modern world, which is probably a good thing, because it would probably make the film look too pompous. Instead, this extra depth makes it a truly enjoyable film to see. We could say that the film explores differences between different sets of worlds.

(A little thing to note for curious minds is that this is yet another of Tim Burton's films where we see the dead dog motive.)

Tim Burton's Corpse Bride is a lovely watch and it has some really good moments. It is fun and yet very touching and somehow real, though disguised into a fairytale. It is suitable for viewers of all ages.
